The puzzle of our humanity

Our hearts mourn for the tragic suffering undergone by the people of Gaza and Lebanon. Apocalyptic scenes emerge on a constant basis.

These are truly sad times that challenge our humanity. How could such dystopian acts be unfolding in front of our eyes?

This is a question many of us struggle with. We are a complicated species.

We see good and evil juxtaposed to each other on a regular basis.

We seem to be highly altruistic, sophisticated beings, yet at the slightest twist of fortune, we succumb to our most brutal impulses.

There often exists a blurry line between noise and truth, error and precision, objectivity and subjectivity.

Aligned with this reality, we will be publishing a few articles a month exploring various dimensions of human conflict.

While some analysis may initially come off as overly intellectual and detached from reality, in our view, rhetoric based on reason, known as the “logos”, is the superior weapon of rhetoric capable of transcending tribal divisions and emancipating all our fellow brothers and sisters.

Emotions serve a great purpose when it comes to understanding and empathizing with others. Without it, humans would turn into robots unable to project their true nature.

Emotional intelligence helps us understand people’s beliefs, fears, trauma, desires and passions that drive their behaviors.

It is an essential part of our nature, as sentient homo sapiens absorbing incessant information while trying to survive in this crazy world.

Emotions can also be a leading cause of irrationality and cognitive biases, leading humans to hold flawed perceptions and miscalculate their values and the intentions of others.

All emotions begin with a subjective experience, by way of stimulus that is later interpreted through the lens of one’s own experience and understanding.

Humanity has not yet reached a state of universal collective consciousness. The same experience can be processed completely differently by people. Someone’s worst nightmare could simultaneously be someone else’s relief.

As social phenomena occur, the divergence in our neural network connections can lead people to reach polar opposite conclusions.

In our opinion, this heterogeneity in perceptions can be heavily damaging to all of humanity, straying us away from truth and enlightenment.

In our view, emotions are a very useful, natural part of our human experiences, but logic can be a more powerful universal tool.

We believe the liberation of human beings begins with appeal to reason and enlightenment, known to the great philosophers as the “logos”.

Sticking to this core value, we will explore various social phenomena from new perspectives and new mental models. Some might seem too abstract and metaphoric at first, but we encourage people to keep an open mind.

Our hope is to promote a paradigm shift, a new way of thinking aimed at discerning the true “essence” of things, rather than the superficial “form”, trying to unravel the laws of nature which govern our universe.

One day astrology turned into astronomy, alchemy turned into chemistry, and surely enough, dogma will one day turn into the science of humanity.
