The act of scapegoating dates back thousands of years ago across human civilizations, stemming from the human nature of seeking to absolve oneself from misfortune.
Spiritually, it refers to traditions of sacrifice to wash away sin from communities. In social contexts, it has grown to define the practice of disproportionately targeting the blame for a crisis on individuals or groups of people.
Whether out of love, ignorance or deceit, the practice has been observed many times across history in political contexts in which governors seek to externalize and dilute blame for famines and disasters.
Since the start of the thawra, March 8 and 14 sulta factions have consistently tried to evade responsibility by shifting the entire focus of the blame on one party or another.
